ZIRCONIA CROWNS
Zirconia crowns are CAD/CAM designed from Zirconia blocks imported directly from
Germany. The material started being adopted into dentistry in 2010 for its extreme
durability, biocompatibility and aesthetic appearance. Zirconia crowns are a very
popular restoration and aesthetic option for patients wishing for a natural or designer
smile. Teeth are prepared by 1mm to a base shape and a zirconia crown is placed on
top to cover the visible surface of the tooth. Crowns are a great option to restore
teeth from damage like cracks, fractures, discolouration, cavities, previous amalgam
fillings, previous gold crowns, and even minor misalignment issues.
How much does a zirconia crown cost in Turkey?
Zirconia Crowns vary in price depending on location in Turkey, reputation of the clinic,
and the quality of zirconia material used. Istanbul has dental clinics available but this
major city has developed a reputation for other medical tourism such as hair
transplants and breast augmentation. Antalya City is at the heart of dental tourism for
reputable clinics. There are other cities where people could find clinics with regionally
cheaper prices. But when you decide to choose quality, it pays to choose a clinic with
a reputation. So how can you know if a clinic has a good reputation? Google reviews
with over a 4.7 star rating are considered reputable, but be sure the clinic has been in
business for a number of years.
A Clinic offering a 2+ year guarantee of their crowns and feeling as though you can
trust that if anything happens to them, the clinic will take care of you. Have you heard
about this clinic through friends or family? Word of mouth is still the most reliable
source of information. You can ask them about their experience. In fact, you can visit
our youtube channel for real patient interviews about their experience with Dentares.

How much are zirconia crowns in Turkey?
Zirconia crowns are a very popular dental restoration for dental tourism in Antalya.
The important thing to note is that there are a few things that vary the zirconia crown
price in Turkey. Consider the reputation of the clinic and the quality of the zirconia
they use. Always check a clinic's google reviews page, and follow them on social
media (Instagram link here), (Facebook link here) to see if you feel a sense of
professionalism and identity. Ask the clinic if they have a laboratory.
Dental clinics and their laboratories are legally required to be kept separate. Clinics
that often deliver poor quality crowns tend to outsource crown manufacturing which
can be inconsistent and prone to breaking. These labs will use Turkish or Chinese
zirconia which is lower quality.
Dentares owns a private laboratory that crafts each zirconia crown from monolithic
zirconia blocks imported from Germany by our supplier, Dental Direkt. German
zirconia is well known for its quality resulting in happier, longer-lasting smiles. For this
reason, quality comes at a higher than market price. As all patients have unique
dental needs, prices vary. If you want to get an online consultation and a quoted

How long do crowns from Turkey last?
Depending on the material used, dental crowns have an expected lifetime of 8 to 15
years. Dentares imports from Germany, the highest grade zirconia oxide material to
use in creating our dental crowns.
How long will a zirconia crown last?
Zirconia as a dental crown material was brought into dentistry in 2010. So there is not
yet enough long term data to suggest that they currently last longer than 10-12 years.
Patients may consider changing their zirconia crowns after 10-15 years.
What are the advantages of zirconia crowns?
There are many advantages to having zirconia crowns in turkey. Zirconia is a cost
effective, durable material that protects the natural tooth for at least a decade. The
colour and shape is long-lasting making this restoration material a favourite of
patients and dentists alike. A full list of advantages are as follows:
CAD (Computer-aided design) gives the laboratory the ability for accurate and
beautiful design
Zirconia has greater hot and cold sensitivity resistance than traditional porcelain or
emax crowns
Zirconia is dense and strong material so crowns can be made thinner. This means
less teeth preparation is required compared to other materials.
Chipping and fractures are very uncommon if quality zirconia is used. Beware of
clinics that use Turkish or Chinese zirconia. These are prone to chipping and
fractures. That’s why we only used quality zirconia imported from Germany.
Zirconia is metal-free and so allergen-free
Zirconia has a high biocompatibility with soft oral tissue.
Zirconia is suitable for patients with bruxism in combination with masseter botox
control to protect the crowns and prevent future oral complications.
Colour grading is simple to accurately match neighbouring teeth
Soft tissue like gum have a better biocompatibility than PFM crowns which reduces
the risk of gum receding from crowns, previously exposing the natural tooth or the
metal base of PFM.
What are the disadvantages of zirconia crowns?
The list of zirconia crowns is quite low because of the cost effectiveness and modern
technology continues to innovate and improve every year. The main disadvantage to
zirconia as a material has to be the translucency. However, as the material is
incredibly strong, only a thin amount is required, increasing translucency.
Disadvantages are further explained below.
Zirconia, although it has a low to medium translucency, emax has much better
translucency for natural smile results.
When cheap materials are used to make crowns, chipping and fractures can be
common within the first year after treatment.
Although colour match can be simple, due to the difference in translucency of
zirconia vs natural tooth enamel. Zirconia can very slightly be distinguished between
natural teeth. Emax are a better option in this case
Zirconia is more expensive than the ceramic or PFM dental crown materials.
Which is better: zirconia or porcelain crown?
Aesthetically, zirconia is better in the long term because after about 2 years, greying
of the porcelain crown can occur. The titanium metal-base influences the grey
undertone of the crown because of the higher translucency of porcelain. Zirconia
doesn’t have this greying issue because it is metal-free. The colour remains stain
resistant and colour-lasting.
Which is better: zirconia or emax crown?
Zirconia has key functional and aesthetic differences so it depends on the goal the
patient wishes to achieve. Zirconia has many benefits and can be very natural
looking. The strength of zirconia is unmatched by other materials and so durable and
longer-lasting. Emax is a ceramic-glass, so it doesn’t have the durability of zirconia.
However, Emax has the closest translucency to our natural enamel. Emax is
unrivalled when it comes to designing the most aesthetic and natural looking smile.
What are the differences between zirconia crowns and emax crowns?
Zirconia is a material made from zirconium oxide whereas Emax is Lithium Disilicate
ceramic or ceramic-glass. Patients often come to Dentares hoping to achieve a
healthy white smile they can be proud of. There are some limitations to emax that
would make zirconia a more appropriate solution. For example, dental bridges cannot
be made of emax. It would be much more wise to use a strong material like zirconia
to cover missing areas.
Zirconia can be placed on every tooth, anterior and posterior (front and back).
Unfortunately the Emax material does not have comparable compressive strength
(bite force) to the zirconia and should only be placed on the front teeth. When eating,
we place the most force on grinding and chewing our foods with our posterior teeth.
Generally speaking, Zirconia can be thought to have the best medical attributes of
crown materials with great aesthetic function. Emax can be considered for those who
wish to beautify their smile while fixing small oral health concerns and misalignment
issues. Zirconia or emax crowns’ suitability varies patient to patient, if you want to get
